Learning about Whaling
Sarah Cohen's sixth grade visited the New Bedford Whaling Museum in early November. There, students had the opportunity to come face-to-face with gigantic whale skeletons and a whaling ship, explore products made from whales, and learn about the history of New Bedford as the center of whaling in the United States during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. They also had the chance to investigate the Buzzards Bay watershed, where the learned about the challenges of keeping water clean and the ways in which the Buzzards Bay Coalition, a water advocacy group, spreads its message.
